Balancing vs Alignment

They're Not The Same Thing

People often confuse the two. Both matter, but they fix different problems.

Balancing = vibration
Balancing evens out weight around the wheel so it spins smoothly. It cures vibration and shimmy — it does not fix pulling.
Alignment = direction
Alignment sets the angles the wheels point at. It fixes pulling and uneven edge wear — it does not cure vibration.
You can need both
New tyres should be balanced; if the car also pulls or wears unevenly, it needs alignment too. We'll tell you which.
When to re-balance
Any time a vibration appears, after hitting a pothole that may have thrown a weight, or whenever you fit new tyres.
