Why A Proper Repair

Why It's Worth Doing Right

A cheap plug or a can of sealant is a false economy — and often unsafe. Here's why we do it properly.

01
Safe & permanent
We repair to British Standard BS AU 159 — the tyre comes off, we inspect inside for hidden damage, and fit a proper patch-plug. It's a permanent, safe fix, not a temporary one.
02
Cheaper than a new tyre
A repair saves you the cost of a whole new tyre when the damage is in the repairable area. We always repair where it's safe to.
03
We find the real cause
A slow puncture can be the tyre, the valve or a corroded rim. We diagnose the actual source rather than guessing.
04
While you wait
Most puncture repairs take under half an hour. Pop in — no appointment needed — and you'll usually be away quickly.
05
Rebalanced after
We rebalance the wheel after repairing, so there's no vibration when you drive off.
06
Honest if it can't be fixed
Sidewall damage and large holes can't be safely repaired. We'll never bodge one — we'll tell you straight and quote a fair price on a replacement.

What Can Be Repaired

Repairable, Or Not?

There are clear safety rules on what can and can't be repaired. We follow them — your safety isn't worth a shortcut.

Punctures in the tread
A nail or screw in the central tread area is almost always safely repairable to British Standard. This is the vast majority of punctures.
Sidewall damage — no
A puncture or cut in the sidewall can't be safely repaired. The sidewall flexes constantly and a repair there would fail. It needs a new tyre.
Large holes — no
Anything bigger than about 6mm, or several close together, is outside the safe repair limit. We'll explain why and quote a replacement.
Driven flat — inspect first
If you've driven any distance on a flat, the inside may be damaged. We inspect internally before deciding it's safe to repair.

Common Questions

Puncture Repair — Answered

How much is a puncture repair in Guildford?
for a standard British Standard repair, done while you wait. If you've got a slow puncture and need us to find the cause, diagnosis is, with the repair on top if it's safely repairable. We'll always confirm the price before we start.
Is it safe to just plug a puncture?
An external plug or a can of sealant is only ever a temporary, roadside get-you-home fix — not a safe permanent repair. We do it properly: the tyre comes off the rim, we inspect the inside for hidden damage, and fit an internal patch-plug to British Standard. That's the only genuinely safe repair.
Can all punctures be repaired?
No, and it's important they're not bodged. Punctures in the central tread area are almost always repairable. Damage to the sidewall, holes larger than about 6mm, or a tyre that's been driven on while flat usually can't be safely repaired — that needs a new tyre. We follow the safety rules strictly and advise honestly.
Do I need an appointment for a puncture?
No — pop in and we'll fit you in. Most puncture repairs are done while you wait, usually in under half an hour. If you're not sure the tyre is safe to drive on, call us first and we'll advise.
Why does my tyre keep slowly going down?
A slow puncture can be caused by a small embedded object, a faulty or perished valve, or corrosion on the wheel rim breaking the seal. We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing, and repair it where it's safe to do so — to find it.
Puncture? Fixed While You Wait
Pop in — no appointment needed — and we'll do a safe, permanent puncture repair, usually in under half an hour.
